My name is Vida Javas Tirilis and for the past 15 years, I've immersed myself in the art of photography. My journey has been fuelled by a deep passion for creating images that resonate with meaning and emotion. Photography has not only been my fervent pursuit but also a source of therapeutic solace. My heart lies in storytelling through authentic moments and compelling events, aiming to evoke emotions and heartfelt connections. For instance, I undertook a multi-year project documenting the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on university students. This experience deeply resonated with me, highlighting the resilience and challenges faced by the community. Additionally I had the opportunity to capture the poignant moments of the candlelight vigils and protests in Toronto led by the Ukrainian people. The profound stories shared during these events moved me to tears, compelling me to capture them through my lens with empathy and sincerity. Working towards completing the Digital Photography Certificate Program at Sheridan College has been pivotal in my journey. Through this experience, I discovered an inspiration for photojournalism, igniting a passion within me to specialize in this form of storytelling. Whether it's the raw emotion of a single image, the immersive storytelling of a documentary series, the portrayal of an environmental portrait, or the captivating feature story, my dedication lies in bringing honest, thoughtful stories to life through photography. By documenting the pulse of communities, global events, and everyday life, I seek to inspire wonder and stir the senses through my images. My photography has been recognized with awards across various competitions like the Mississauga and Haliburton Highlands Camera Clubs. Additionally, I've contributed my work to silent auctions, supporting charitable causes. I am dedicated to continuing to capture the raw emotions, untold stories, and significant moments that define our world.
